Hi there!
I’m so glad you found your way to my new website. Whether you’ve been using my resources for a while or just found it, I want to say: welcome. I figured this would be a great opportunity to introduce myself and share a bit about why I do what I do. Think of this post as us sitting down for a cup of coffee, chatting about teaching science, and how we can make it easier (and way more fun).
A Bit About Me
I’ve been in the world of education for quite a while now – long enough to know that teaching is more complex and challenging than those who are outside of education truly know. The best part about teaching are those moments when you really connect with students and finally see that lightbulb go off when a tough concept clicks.
My journey started as a biologist and an environmental educator, focusing on the outdoors and hands-on nature experiences for kids. I loved watching kids get excited over things like spotting a frog or identifying a plant for the first time. That’s where I fell in love with teaching science – not just for the content itself, but for how it helps kids see and understand the world around them.
From there, I became a science teacher in a typical classroom setting, where I quickly learned that teaching is a finely tuned craft that takes years of practice. Between keeping up with pacing, engaging every student (even the ones who’d rather be anywhere else), and making sure the activities were meaningful, I often found myself creating resources from scratch that would both meet standards and capture my students’ attention.
Eventually, I moved into curriculum development and instructional coaching, where I worked side-by-side with teachers. I loved being able to help them come up with creative ways to teach tricky topics. But let’s face it, teaching is hard work. Teachers juggle a million things every day. You don’t just teach – you plan, grade, answer emails, manage behavior, attend meetings, keep up with new standards and policies… the list goes on. It’s exhausting.
That’s where I saw an opportunity to help. I started creating resources – lessons, labs, and activities designed to make life easier for teachers. My goal was (and still is) to create materials that aren’t just aligned to standards but that also work in real classrooms with real kids. I want to give teachers tools they can trust, so they can focus more on doing what they love.
Why This Website Matters
When I started creating resources, I wanted to solve a problem I saw all the time: teachers struggling to find lessons that were both meaningful and doable. We’ve all been there – you find a cool idea, but it either takes hours to prep or it doesn’t quite work for your students. My goal is to bridge that gap by offering resources that are practical, engaging, and flexible.
But this site isn’t just about resources. It’s also a place where I want to share what I’ve learned over the years. I want it to be a space where you, as a teacher or parent, can find inspiration, new ideas, and maybe even a little encouragement on those days when you need it.
What's Next
The blog is going to be a key part of the site. I’ll be sharing posts on a variety of topics, including teaching strategies, recent scientific research, and creative ways to connect real-world events to your science lessons. I know that when students see how science relates to their lives, they get more engaged – and that’s what we’re all aiming for, right?
I’ll also be sharing tips for building your confidence as a science educator. You don’t need to be an astrophysicist to teach science well (but wouldn’t that be cool)! You just need the right tools, a curious mindset, and a little support along the way. Hopefully, that’s what I can offer here!
Stick Around
So, that’s a bit about me and what this site is all about. If you’re looking for ways to help kids explore the world around them and want to keep growing as an educator, I’d love for you to stick around. Check out some of the blog posts, explore the resources, and, most importantly, take what works for you and make it your own.
Thanks for taking a moment to get to know me. I hope this site becomes a helpful part of your teaching journey. If you ever want to reach out or share what’s worked in your classroom, I’m always happy to chat, because at the end of the day, we’re all learning together.
